4: OUT OF CONTROL

PlayStation The Official Magazine
August 2009

What began innocently enough with a few molded-plastic guitars has started into a full-blown peripheral invasion. Sure, flight sticks and racing wheels have been around since the gaming dark ages, but never before have specialized controllers been available in such abundance or diversity. And with these new controllers come unique and exciting game experiences that simply wouldn’t be possible on a traditional gamepad.  But are gamers going to be willing to put down the extra cash for all this new equipment? Are these peripherals really going to change the way we play or will they simply take up more space in our closets? For now, we’ll have to wait and see, but soon enough, these controllers will be competing for a spot next to your Guitar Hero plastic axes.

DJ HERO VS SCRATCH: THE ULTIMATE DJ- the next great rhythm game rivalry. Much like the Guitar Hero and Rock Band, the two share similar elements of everything from music to gameplay. So naturally, their peripherals have a lot in common too…though they certainly aren’t identical. Scratch’s “Scratch Deck” offers a free-spinning record wheel, five note buttons, and a crossfader. DJ Hero’s controller has only three note buttons but adds an efects dial and Star POer button on top of the crossfader and wheel.
